About

Whereas compulsory insurance of civil liability of the owners of motor vehicles was initiated in the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Transport Insurance Bureau was established by the Decree of President of the Republic of Belarus. This Republican Association integrates insurance organizations covering third party liability risks in respect of the use of the motor vehicles in the Republic. At the moment there are 6 insurance organizations - members of the Bureau. Since 1st June 2002 the Bureau is a Member of the Council of Bureaux of the International Motor Insurance Green Card System.

The purpose of the Bureau is to organize the conducting of compulsory civil liability insurance, coordinate the activity of the involved parties, control over the performance of insurers - members of the Bureau, represent the Republic of Belarus in the International Motor Insurance Green Card System.

Besides, the Bureau makes calculations with the victims in the case of a damage by a vehicle the owner of which did not conclude a contract of compulsory insurance of motor civil liability of the owners of motor vehicles, by a vehicle, which is out of the possession of its owner in the result of illegal actions, and also in the case of a damage to life or health of the victim by an unstated vehicle. The Bureau is also responsible for the obligations of the insolvent insurance organizations - members of the Bureau, which have been recognized insolvent in accordance to the legislation. All these payments are executed by the Bureau for the account of the guarantee funds, formed by the Bureau in accordance to the legislation.

Since the moment of its creation the structure of the Bureau has been permanently developing and is directed to a maximally effective performance of its tasks and functions, stipulated by the Articles of the Belarusian Transport Insurance Bureau.
